Thank You for Waiting Some of us were born to grow in the shade... even though I've always yearned to be in the sun. I wanted to be like those big bright beautiful flowers. They grow so tall and eye catching. I am small. I grow better in the shade. Simple matte green leaves. There are many of us. Close to the ground. We make our medicine as we watch the beautiful ones bloom with each coming season. I can protect you. I can take away your poison. I will never grow tall and colourful. But I can be strong for you. Even when you walk over me to see the beautiful blooming flowers up close. I will be waiting in the shade of the great pines. Close to the ground. When you are ready to learn where I am. Royalty. My black cast iron crown drilling and compressing inward until I'm blinded with pain and agony a fate worse than death. A pain that makes death feel like a cure. A crown so heavy, reality escapes. Nothing else matters. No one else matters. Life no longer matters. All that matters is removing my crown. The crown of tears. My black cast iron crown. I Am Sorry. Did I speak too loud? Did I say too much? Did I invoke real fear? Did I trigger you? Did I make you revisit another story? Did you think of someone else that endured before me? Did you think twice? I am sorry. Did I not disappear like you wanted me to? Did I not fall victim to your bad medicine too? Did I hurt your feelings when I called to action our own men? I’ve seen mothers, aunties, grandmothers stand to violence even after it became taboo. All because you didn’t uphold the teachings that our own ancestors gave us. That’s on you.
